Even though Texas Women's Basketball fell short of making it to the Final Four in Cleveland, Ohio, they can celebrate one more accomplishment. Yesterday, it was announced that Freshman forward Madison Booker was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American team.

Texas women's basketball freshman F Madison Booker named an All-American

Booker was one of ten college basketball players that coaches voted on to make this prestigious list. Let's look back on Booker's first season in college basketball and look back at past Longhorns that made the list for women's basketball.

Booker had an outstanding freshman season with the Longhorns. She was averaging 17 points a game, five rebounds and five assists. It wasn't until Junior guard Rori Harmon tore her ACL in practice before Big 12 Conference play the potential that Booker had as a player. Booker became the primary ball-handler before Senior guard Shaylee Gonzales took over. Booker was cooking players on the court with her lethal jump shot. Some fans and reporters were starting to compare her to Kevin Durant.

Now back to the news yesterday, Booker joins a prestigous group with some high-profile names. She joined Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Cameron Brink and others on the All-American team. For a freshman in college basketball to do that is pretty remarkable. You have to be a really special player as a freshman to be considered for this honor.

Booker isn't the only women's basketball player from Texas to become an All-American. Edwina Brown, Clarissa Davis, Andrea Lloyd, Kamie Ethridge, and Annette Smith have also been named an All-American. Don't be surprised if Booker gets nominated again before her career is over at Texas. She will be a threat in the SEC next season and could help the Longhorns upset the South Carolina Gamecocks in the SEC Championship game next year.

In conclusion, Booker 100 percent deserves to be named an All-American. She was one of the main reasons that the Longhorns won the Big 12 Women's Basketball title in their final year in the conference. Booker has the determination to take her game to the next level.

It will be fun watching her play in the SEC next season. With Harmon returning next season, the other SEC teams might be in trouble taking on the Longhorns.
