Texas schedules non-conference vs. Louisiana Tech for 2028

It was announced on Oct. 3 that Texas football has added the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to the non-conference schedule for the 2028 season. Louisiana Tech joins the UTSA Roadrunners as the two teams currently on Texas's non-conference schedule for the 2028 regular season.

Texas will face Louisiana Tech at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 2. The matchup against UTSA will also be at home at DKR for the Longhorns, scheduled for Sep. 16.

The SEC has decided to play eight conference games during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. If the SEC keeps playing eight conference games for multiple years into the future (beyond the 2025 season), then the Longhorns would have two more out-of-conference games to add to the schedule for the 2028 campaign.

If the SEC decides to move to nine conference games, the Longhorns will have one more spot for an out-of-conference game in 2028.

The one and only time Texas has faced Louisiana Tech on the gridiron was during the 2019 season. Texas defeated Louisiana Tech at DKR 45-14 behind four passing touchdowns from quarterback Sam Ehlinger in the 2019 regular season opener.

Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian also defeated UTSA in non-conference play earlier this season, by a score of 56-7 in Week 3 at home at DKR.

Louisiana Tech from the Conference-USA is coached by third-year head coach and former Texas Tech Red Raiders and TCU Horned Frogs offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie. The Bulldogs are off to a 1-3 start this season.
