Texas baseball's first portal loss of the offseason is SS Sam Ardoin

Ardoin registered two runs batted in, one run scored, two walks, and no hits in two at-bats over his four appearances for head coach David Pierce and the Longhorns last season. Defensively, Ardoin racked up one putout and two assists in 2024.

Ardoin most recently appeared in Texas's 11-0 win over UT-Arlington at the Disch on April 23 as a late-game sub for shortstop Jalin Flores.

The 6-foot-1 and 170-pound infielder hailing from Lake Charles (LA) Sam Houston High School signed with the Longhorns 2023 recruiting class. He ranked as the No. 500 prospect nationally in the 2023 class according to Perfect Game, No. 119 shortstop, and No. 8 from Louisiana.

Sam is the younger brother of former Texas catcher Silas Ardoin. Silas played catcher at Texas from 2020 to 2022, racking up 13 home runs and 87 runs batted in over 129 starts and 140 total appearances. Silas was an All-Big 12 catcher during the 2022 season.

Danny Ardoin, Sam's dad, played in the pros for over a decade, including five seasons in the MLB. Danny was a fifth round pick by the Oakland Athletics in the 1995 MLB Amateur Draft. He is a graduate of McNeese State University.

Sam is the first Longhorns player to enter the transfer portal since the 2024 season ended in the College Station Regional a couple of weeks ago. Texas finished the 2024 season with a 36-24 (20-10 Big 12) record in the final year in the Big 12 before leaving for the SEC in 2024-25.
