Texas football and new defensive line coach Kenny Baker hosted a couple of priority defensive tackle targets from the NCAA Transfer Portal during the spring game last weekend. Former Arizona Wildcats senior defensive tackle Bill Norton and UCLA Bruins senior defensive tackle Jay Toia are two key portal targets Texas has identified during this spring transfer window.

Texas football in a favorable spot for two transfer defensive tackles

Norton and Toia both arrived on campus for their visits to Texas last week either late on Thursday or early Friday. Both defensive tackles witnessed firsthand the new for Texas to add proven depth along the interior defensive line during the spring game at DKR on Saturday.

It sounds like the Longhorns are in good spots with each portal target after they had successful multi-day visits to Austin over the weekend.

On Texas Football's Gerry Hamilton reported on April 22 (premium content) that Texas is the "heavy favorite" for the 6-foot-6 and 325-pound grad transfer Norton.

He and his family had a good experience during their visit to Texas last weekend. Texas is the only school Norton has or is scheduled to visit this spring.

Regarding Toia's status, Texas is also trending positively in this portal recruitment after the grad transfer and his family had a visit that was considered a "big success" last weekend. Toia is reportedly a "considerable lean" toward Texas as of the writing of this article early this week.

Norton and Toia are Texas's top two portal priorities at defensive tackle following the spring game visit weekend.

Texas has also targeted former TCU Horned Frogs junior defensive tackle Damonic Williams in the portal this spring. The All-Big 12 Honorable Mention defensive lineman from California is scheduled to visit Texas on April 23 and 24.

Baker and the Longhorns reportedly have confidence in their positioning with Williams after he visited Norman last weekend to see the Oklahoma Sooners.

We will continue to follow the status of all three portal recruitments among the three defensive tackle transfer targets for the Longhorns in the coming days.
