Texas trending for 4-Star RB target James Simon
Texas football running backs coach Tashard Choice is seeking a second RB commit in the 2025 recruiting class. Earlier this spring, Texas landed a pledge from former SMU Mustangs four-star commit and Tyler (TX) Chapel Hill running back Rickey Stewart Jr.
Texas football emerging as the clear favorite for 4-Star RB James Simon
The running back who is the current favorite to join Stewart as the second commit at the position in this class is the highly touted four-star Shreveport (LA) Calvary Baptist product, James Simon.
Simon has been trending to Texas since the communication picked up between him and the coaches early this spring. Choice and the Longhorns staff hosted Simon for a successful unofficial trip for the Texas spring game at DKR on April 20.
The combination of Texas really prioritizing Simon's recruitment this spring, along with the successful unofficial visit for the spring game a few weeks ago, has put the Longhorns in the lead entering summer official visits.
Tom Loy of 247Sports reported on May 5 (paid content) that there is confidence from the Texas side that the Longhorns are the "leaders right now" in Simon's recruitment. He mentioned that both Texas and the LSU Tigers have echoed the sentiment that the Longhorns are in the driver seat in this recruitment entering the summer.
Simon is scheduled to officially visit Texas in late June (June 21-23). It sounds like Simon wants to wait until after that Texas official visit next month to announce his decision.
There is some buzz that Simon could move up his decision timeline to sometime before his late June official visit to Texas. As it stands now, Texas is the only school that Simon is scheduled to officially visit.
This comes as not much of a surprise since Simon has his only official visit scheduled there, but multiple industry forecasts have been entered projecting his commitment to Texas this week and weekend. Two 247Sports writers entered Crystal Ball predictions in the last couple of days for Texas to get a commitment from the Louisiana native running back.
Inside Texas' Justin Wells also entered an On3 RPM pick for Texas to land Simon's commitment over LSU.
