Elite Texas football edge rusher target and Cocoa (FL) product Javion Hilson decommitted from the Florida State Seminoles on Sunday over the weekend. Texas has remained in consistent communication with Hilson over the past couple of months on the recruiting trail.

Steve Wiltfong predicts 5-Star FSU EDGE decommit Javion Hilson to give his pledge to Texas football in the 2025 class

Texas made a big impression on Hilson when he officially visited Austin in early June. The contact remained steady between Hilson and the Longhorns' coaches ever since that successful official visit to Austin during the summer.

It looks like the Longhorns have their sights set on adding a third EDGE in the 2025 class, along with the two they have now in high-four-star Lance Jackson and four-star Smith Orogbo.

With Florida State struggling to start the season, going 0-2 in their first two games in ACC play this fall, the negative impacts have started to pop up on the recruiting trail with the commitments in their class for 2025 in early September.

In the last three days alone, Florida State lost commitments from two of its highest-rated pledges along the front seven for the 2025 class, Hilson and four-star defensive lineman Myron Charles. Texas flipped Charles from Florida State on Saturday afternoon.

Since Hilson decommitted from Florida State late last weekend, the expert predictions from the major recruiting services in the industry have starting favoring Texas in this recruitment for the No. 2 EDGE recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.

On3's Steve Wiltfong entered an RPM, projecting Hilson's commitment to the Longhorns on Sep. 8.

Hilson planning to visit Texas for a gameday trip this fall

The next logical move for the Longhorns in this recruitment for Hilson is getting him on the books for a gameday visit to DKR in the SEC this fall. It sounds like a gameday trip for sometime in October or November for an SEC game in Austin at DKR is the most likely scenario for the Longhorns to get Hilson to campus for an unofficial visit.

Hilson committed to Florida State back in January 2024, where he flipped his pledge from the Alabama Crimson Tide.
