Texas Women's Basketball took on the Iowa State Cyclones tonight in a rematch of last year's Big 12 Championship game. The Longhorns have waited an entire year to possibly get their revenge against the Cyclones and win the title. The Longhorns didn't waste any time shutting down the Cyclones offense tonight. Texas held Iowa State to 21 points in the first half.

The Longhorns would win 70-53 to win the Big 12 Title this year. The Longhorns might have a case for being a number-one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Here are the three takeaways from tonight's win over the Cyclones.

Texas Women's Basketball vs. Iowa State Cyclones: 3. Suffocating defense

The Longhorns' defense suffocated the Cyclones' offense in the first half and was a factor. They held Cyclones Freshman center Audi Crooks to six points in the first half. Keeping her contained tonight was a goal, and the Longhorns did so with ease in the first half.

If the Longhorns want a long March Madness run, this defense can't take a day off for the remainder of the postseason. It's one-and-done during the tournament. It was great seeing how good their defense was before the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

Texas Women's Basketball vs. Iowa State Cyclones: 2. Making three-pointers

The Longhorns were living by the three-pointer tonight in the first half. Texas made 83.3% of their three-point shots in the first half. I've seen teams live or die by the three-pointer, and Texas could not miss in the first half.

The Cyclones died by the three-pointer, only making three in the first half. This is just another example of how good the Longhorns can shut teams on defense. Longhorns fans should be excited for their tournament run this season.

Texas Women's Basketball vs. Iowa State Cyclones: 1. Madison Booker putting on a championship performance

Going into tonight's match-up against the Cyclones, I was worried about how Freshman forward Madison Booker would handle the pressure of a conference championship game as a freshman. She looked like a conference championship veteran based on how she played tonight. She recorded 26 points, six rebounds, and five assists against the Cyclones tonight.

Booker will be a force in the upcoming tournament. Junior guard Rori Harmon has mentored her well this season. With the Big 12 Title on the way back to Austin, TX, the Longhorns wait until this Sunday to find out their first-round opponent.
