The ending to the Texas Women's Basketball game last night was a heartbreaker. The Longhorns fought for forty minutes tonight to lose by a three-point shot with seconds left on the clock.

The Oklahoma Sooners beat the Longhorns 71-70 to win the Big 12 Regular Season title for the second year in a row. While it's disappointing to lose the regular season championship to your rivals, winning the Big 12 Tournament is more important. Here are the three takeaways from the loss to the Sooners.

Texas Women's Basketball vs. Oklahoma Sooners: 3. Getting out-rebounded

I thought ESPN's box score for the game had a malfunction when I saw the rebound totals from tonight. When you get out-rebounded 47-30, it won't go well for your team.

The Longhorns won't be winning the Big 12 Title this season if they allow 47 rebounds in the tournament. Controlling the boards is very important in today's game. That is something that the Longhorns need to work on in the final regular season game on Saturday.

Texas Women's Basketball vs. Oklahoma Sooners: 2. Payton Verhulst had a game

The Longhorns needed to shut down Junior guard Payton Verhulst, and they failed to do so. She has been a constant scorer for the Sooners in Big 12 play. She has averaged 12 points, six rebounds and four assists this season.

Verhulst will win some Big 12 All-Team honors for how she's played this season. She will be a threat against the Longhorns if they end up playing each other in the Big 12 tournament. If the Longhorns play the Sooners again this season, she can't go off like last night.

Texas Women's Basketball vs. Oklahoma Sooners: 1. Sooners shut down Booker

Oklahoma did the unthinkable last night against the Longhorns by shutting down Freshman forward Madison Booker. She finished with 26 points against the Sooners. However, 16 points came off baskets, and the remainder came from free throws.

The Longhorns better hope that the Sooners didn't create a blueprint to shut down one of the best players in the Big 12. Texas returns home for Senior night as they take on the BYU Cougars on Saturday night. It will be the final regular-season game before the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri.
