Texas Women's Basketball: Takeaways from win vs. TCU
By Brian Sweet
Texas Women's Basketball traveled to Fort Worth, TX, to take on the TCU Horned Frogs. It was a rough first quarter as both teams struggled to make a basket. It was even a contested battle going into the second half of the game.
The Longhorns would start to pull away with a 9-0 run with 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Longhorns beat the Horned Frogs by a final of 65-43. Here are the three takeaways from the win in Fort Worth this afternoon.
Texas Longhorns Women's Basketball vs. TCU Horned Frogs Takeaways: 3. Scored more in the third quarter than they did the first half
Something that stood out in the box score was the Longhorns scored more in the third quarter than the first two combined. The Longhorns scored 23 points in the first two quarters combined.
When it was the end of the third quarter, the Longhorns scored 26. The Longhorns struggled to score in the first half because they were off the entire week. Now that they have a game under their belt, I'm sure they will do a better job Wednesday against Houston in the first half.
Texas Longhorns Women's Basketball vs. TCU Horned Frogs Takeaways: 2. Horned Frogs turned the ball over a lot
TCU couldn't stop turning the ball over today against Texas. The Horned Frogs finished the game with 19 turnovers this afternoon.
If you want to win a basketball game, you can't turn the ball over that many times in a game, especially against a team like the Longhorns. Two of the turnovers today were five-second violations inbounding the ball. This shows how good the Longhorns are at forcing turnovers.
Texas Longhorns Women's Basketball vs. TCU Horned Frogs Takeaways: 1. Shay Holle providing the offense today
Senior guard Shay Holle showed up when the offense was struggling to get going against the Horned Frogs. She finished with 15 points, three rebounds and four assists. She helped orchestrate the offense in the third quarter, and it helped the Longhorns separate themselves from the Horned Frogs.
Texas Women's Basketball Head Coach Vic Schaefer is happy to have a veteran guard like Holle in the lineup. The Longhorns are back in action on Wednesday night in Houston against the Cougars, then return to Austin to take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday afternoon.
