Texas Women's Basketball: Takeaways from win vs. Texas Tech
By Brian Sweet
Texas Women's Basketball hosted the Texas Tech Lady Raiders tonight at the Moody Center. The Lady Raiders looked prepared for tonight, as it was a close game for all 40 minutes. Both teams had several lead changes throughout the game.
Sophomore forward Amina Muhammad finished with a 16-point double-double in the 77-72 win over the Lady Raiders. Here are the three takeaways from the win over the Lady Raiders tonight.
Texas Women's Basketball vs. Texas Tech Lady Raiders: 3. Winning close games
I mentioned this in the previous article from this past weekend. You have to win close games to win a championship. The Lady Raiders kept it close until the end of the game. Fans should be somewhat concerned because it looks like the Lady Raiders presented a blueprint to slow down the Longhorns. Even though it looked like the Longhorns were unprepared for the Lady Raiders, it was a good test before they head to the Big 12 Tournament.
Texas Women's Basketball vs. Texas Tech Lady Raiders: 2. Longhorns offense needs to move faster
The Longhorns' offense looked like it was sleepwalking tonight against the Lady Raiders. The Longhorns weren't moving the ball quickly enough, and it's the reason it was a close game for 40 minutes.
The Lady Raiders ran a 3-2 zone and didn't have to adjust before the Longhorns took a shot. If they want a shot at winning the Big 12 title this season, they need to be playing up-tempo all 40 minutes of the game.
Texas Women's Basketball vs. Texas Tech Lady Raiders: 1. Muhammad's double-double was the main factor tonight
Muhammad's double-double was the main reason the Longhorns won tonight. With the Lady Raiders shutting down Madison Booker and Taylor Jones tonight, Muhammad dominated the boards and put the ball into the basket.
She has been averaging eight points at home this season for the Longhorns. Texas will hit the road for their final two road games this season. Their first stop will be on Saturday as they take on the University of Central Florida.
