Texas Women's Basketball: Takeaways from win vs. UCF
By Brian Sweet
Texas Women's Basketball traveled to Florida to take on the Central Florida Golden Knights. Texas looked to improve their overall game after the close win to the Texas Tech Lady Raiders this past Wednesday.
It looked like a completely different Longhorns team on the court today, as they had a 21-point lead by halftime. The Longhorns would have no problems putting the game away in the second half, winning 87-56 over the Golden Knights. Here are the three takeaways from the game this afternoon against the Golden Knights.
Texas Women's Basketball vs. UCF Golden Knights: 3. Winning the turnover battle
The Longhorns were dominant on defense this afternoon against the Golden Knights. They won the turnover battle against the Golden Knights, forcing 21 turnovers. With the Golden Knights in last place in the Big 12, they were a perfect team to work on defense before the Big 12 Title Tournament. If the Longhorns want to win the Big 12 Title, they must force turnovers and capitalize on the other end. What a great effort on the defensive end today from the Longhorns.
Texas Women's Basketball vs. UCF Golden Knights: 2. Madison Booker getting to the basket
Freshman forward Madison Booker could not be stopped at the rim this afternoon. One thing that the Longhorns needed to do today was get the ball in her hands and let her go to the rim. She did that repeatedly, and the Golden Knights had no answer for her. Booker finished the game with 22 points and five assists. Even though Booker is a freshman, she plays like she's been at Texas for four years. It will be interesting to see how Booker does at the Big 12 Tournament in two weeks.
Texas Women's Basketball vs. UCF Golden Knights: 1. Putting the game out of reach by halftime
The one thing that the Longhorns needed to improve on today was having the game wrapped up by halftime. The Lady Raiders were only down four at halftime against the Longhorns on Wednesday, which gave them momentum for the second half of the game.
Today, the Longhorns were up by 21 at halftime, which is better. The Longhorns will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, on Wednesday as they take on the Oklahoma Sooners in what could be the deciding game in which team gets the Big 12 regular season title.
