Texas working to flip Nebraska DL commit Malcolm Simpson

Defensive line recruiting remains a primary focus for Texas football's coaching staff on the trail for the 2025 class going into the fall. Texas and defensive line coach Kenny Baker are looking to add two or three more defensive tackles from high school recruiting in the 2025 class before signing day in early December.

Baker and the Longhorns have targeted multiple potential flips from other P4 schools along the defensive line in the 2025 class late this summer on the trail.

One of the newest defensive tackle flip targets emerging on the Longhorns' radar for the 2025 class entering the fall is in-state four-star defensive lineman and Nebraska Cornhuskers commit Malcolm Simpson.

Inside Texas reported on Aug. 27 that Baker has contacted Simpson recently on the recruiting trail. Simpson is reportedly interested in planning a visit to Texas this fall, if the Longhorns coaching staff pushes for him to get to campus for a gameday at DKR in the next few months.

Simpson currently holds P4 offers from schools like the Texas A&M Aggies, Baylor Bears, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kansas Jayhawks, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and USC Trojans, among others.

Texas hasn't officially offered the four-star defensive lineman from Galveston (TX) Hitchcock High School yet in the 2025 class.

If Texas does get Simpson to campus for a gameday visit at DKR this fall, that is a good sign that things are picking up for the Longhorns' interest in this recruitment to push to flip him from Nebraska before signing day.

Things will get real in this recruitment for the Longhorns if Simpson does show up on campus for a visit during the season this fall.

New Texas commitment in the 2025 class was teammates with Simpson

Texas has some connections to Simpson in this recruitment. Before transferring to Hitchcock High School in Texas in the past year, Simpson was teammates with new Texas commitment and five-star athlete/safety Jonah Williams.

The Longhorns had also shown some interest in Simpson before Baker took over as the new defensive line coach earlier in the 2024 offseason. Simpson had taken an unofficial visit to Texas during the early-offseason Junior Day for the Longhorns back in January of 2023.
