Way-too-early rankings of SEC offensive lines leading up to the 2024 season
2. Texas
Texas is one of the three SEC projected starting offensive lines that has over 7,000 returning blocking snaps for the FBS, at least four returning starters, and triple-digit career P5 starts in 2024. The only loss the Longhorns' suffered this offseason among the projected offensive line starters is senior right tackle Christian Jones.
But junior offensive tackle Cam Williams proved he can handle the duties as a reliable pass blocker and a real body mover at the line of scrimmage for run blocking in his live-game snaps last season. He didn't allow a single QB pressure in his one start in Jones's place due to an injury for the Kansas State last year in a big overtime win in Big 12 play.
This should be Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood's best offensive line group among the starters in their four years at Texas in 2024. If this group performs well in run blocking and pass pro in the SEC this fall, I'd expect to see at least two or three NFL Draft picks emerge, including a likely top 10 pick in 2025 in starting left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr.
1. LSU
PFF ranked LSU's offensive line as the third-best unit in college football this preseason, behind Alabama's and Georgia's. That was a big mistake.
LSU easily should have the best offensive line in pass protection in the Power Five this season, not just in the SEC, with two of the best offensive tackles returning. Sophomore left tackle Will Campbell is considered by many to be the best offensive tackle in the nation, and he is projected to be a top five or 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft class.
Starting right tackle Emery Jones also ranks among the best offensive tackles in the nation, making LSU's starting OTs the best duo in college football for this upcoming season.
The interior offensive line was also really good for LSU last season. And they return both starting guards that ranked in the top five at their position in the SEC in run and pass blocking grade.
LSU ranked second in the SEC in yards before contact and pass-blocking efficiency in 2023. There's a good chance they could rank best in one or both of those key blocking categories this year for OL coach Brad Davis, who is one of the best developers and recruits in the trenches in the P5 at LSU.
