Week 3 SEC conference power rankings
Last week: 7 (-4)
Oklahoma and head coach Brent Venables played it really close to the chest, narrowly avoiding an upset at home against the Houston Cougars. It's pretty concerning for Oklahoma's offense that the Sooners were held under 250 total yards of offense against a middle of the pack (at best) Big 12 defense.
If Oklahoma doesn't improve on the offensive side of the ball in Week 3, a pretty good Tulane team could have them on upset alert again this upcoming weekend.
Last week: 13 (+3)
Somehow, the Arkansas Razorbacks and head coach Sam Pittman snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a 39-31 overtime loss against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday afternoon in Stillwater. Despite putting up over 600 total yards of offense and dominating in the trenches for most of the game, three turnovers and two turnover on downs on offense cost the Hogs against the Pokes.
The good news for Arkansas is that the offense looks very explosive and hard to defend behind the athletic quarterback Taylen Green and transfer running back Ja'Quinden Jackson.
Last week: 8 (-1)
Before a very important road trip to Gainesville to take on the Gators this coming weekend, Texas A&M was able to build some confidence and momentum on offense with a 42-point win at home over FCS McNeese State on Sep. 7. Quarterback Conner Weigman was much better last weekend, completing nearly 80 percent of his passing attempts for two touchdowns and no turnovers.
Last week: 16 (+8)
South Carolina definitely surprised me with their 20+ point victory on the road over Kentucky last weekend. Head coach Shane Beamer's squad looked like a completely rejuvenated group beating Kentucky by double-digits after nearly getting upset by a G5 foe in Old Dominion in their season opener in Week 1.
The Gamecocks' pass defense was something to behold in Week 2, holding Kentucky to under 50 passing yards while intercepting two passes from Vandagriff on Saturday.
