Week 5 SEC conference power rankings
Last week: 12 (-3)
Nothing has gone right for the Auburn Tigers passing game early this fall against P4 competition. Hank Brown struggled at quarterback for Auburn last weekend, throwing for just 73 passing yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions in a double-digit loss at home to the Arkansas Razorbacks in their SEC opener.
Auburn's schedule is going to continue to be challenging over the next few weeks, as head coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers are set to face three straight ranked foes in the SEC in the next three weeks.
Last week: 14 (--)
Napier and the Gators got a much-needed win for their first victory in SEC play last weekend on the road against Mississippi State. Senior quarterback Graham Mertz was spectacular, completing 19-of-21 pass attempts for 225 total yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Florida suddenly has hope now and in the future at the quarterback position, with Mertz putting it together last weekend in the double-digit win over Mississippi State and freshman signal caller DJ Lagway being the future of this offense.
Last week: 15 (+2)
Another week, another close loss for head coach Clark Lea and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vandy surprised many SEC fans last weekend, nearly toppling a top-10-ranked Mizzou Tigers squad on the road in Columbia, after dropping a non-conference game to Georgia State the previous week.
Vanderbilt would probably make the top half of this week's power rankings in the SEC had it not made the costly mistake of shanking a field-goal try to hand Mizzou the overtime victory.
Last week: 13 (+1)
The Kentucky Wildcats and quarterback Brock Vandagriff got their passing attack back on track last weekend in an easy victory over the Ohio Bobcats out of the MAC. But we probably can't take much away from Kentucky being able to pass the ball against Ohio.
Kentucky continues its rough first-half of the season SEC schedule this upcoming weekend with a trip out to Oxford to face the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels.
