The updated version of Bruce Feldman's Freaks List on The Athletic ahead of the NFL Combine included Texas football junior defensive lineman and potential first-round NFL Draft pick Byron Murphy II.

Murphy was ranked among the top 25 freaks who could impress with their athletic traits at the 2024 NFL Combine, starting on Feb. 26 in Indianapolis, IN. The NFL Combine lasts for one week in Indy, through March 6.

Texas football DT Byron Murphy II could vault his draft stock at the NFL Combine this week

Feldman usually releases a Freaks List before each college football season and during the scouting/prep time for each NFL Draft. He ranks the biggest physical freaks by the top 25 based on raw athletic traits.

Judging off Feldman's Freaks List, Murphy will be one of the most potent athletes that an NFL team can select in the 2024 draft this spring. Feldman ranked Murphy as the third freakiest athlete ahead of the NFL Combine.

It's clear that Feldman feels Murphy is one of the most physically gifted and overpowering athletes in this NFL Draft class. He only ranked behind Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson and Toledo corner Quinyon Mitchell among the biggest freaks heading into the NFL Combine.

Murphy was also rated as the freakiest defensive tackle in this draft class.

Feldman mentioned that he thinks Murphy could be one of the fastest linemen in the NFL Combine, running a 40-yard dash time around 4.80 seconds. Combine the fast 40 time with the agility and raw power that Murphy brings, and it looks like the next week or so in Indy will be a crucial time for his draft stock.

Feldman has noticed Murphy's raw athleticism since last summer

During last preseason, Feldman made it a point to highlight Murphy's power and speed as a key part of Texas's interior defensive line. After Feldman ranked Murphy in the top 20 on his preseason 2023 Freaks List, it is now the second time he's slotted the Texas defensive tackle highly among the top athletes in the sport coming out of college.

Murphy and T'Vondre Sweat highlight Texas's 11 NFL Combine invitees

Texas had an outstanding 11 NFL Combine invitees with the 2024 draft class, which is the highest-number from the Longhorns in the last two decades.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the rest of Texas's staff have done a great job improving player development in the last couple of years on the 40, which shows in the depth of Longhorns' talent in the 2024 NFL Draft class.
