247Sports releases updated SEC preseason power rankings with Texas football among the top 3 teams
With SEC Media Days taking place this week, many major media outlets have released their preseason rankings for the conference before the official media preseason poll releases in a couple of days.
247Sports released their updated preseason power rankings for the SEC in 2024 amid the start of media days this week. As has often been the case this week at media days, the expectations are high from the media's perspective for the Longhorns in the SEC for the upcoming season in 2024.
The 247Sports preseason SEC power rankings pegged the Longhorns as the No. 2 team in the conference, only behind the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs. Texas holds steady at No. 2 in these preseason SEC power rankings after 247Sports ranked them in the same spot post-spring ball a few months ago.
Given that many media analysts and personalities have picked Texas to face Georgia in the 2024 SEC Championship Game, this pecking order for the 247Sports preseason power rankings doesn't come as much of a surprise.

Texas manages to avoid facing some of the SEC's best teams during the 2024 season in conference play. According to the SEC preseason power rankings here from 247Sports, Texas doesn't have to face the best teams in the conference from the third to seventh spots.
That said, the Longhorns still face the possible No. 1 team this preseason in all the major polls, Georgia, at home in mid-October. Texas could realistically face three or four teams this regular season that make the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.
