Michael Terry III, ATH
Arguably, the top priority for the Longhorns among uncommitted remaining recruits in the 2025 class this fall is the elite five-star San Antonio (TX) Alamo Heights athlete Michael Terry III. The No. 1 athlete recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking looks like he will draw his decision timeline out until signing day early next month.
Since last offseason, we've discussed multiple reports having Terry's decision timeline ended around the late summer. But it looks like the Nebraska Cornhuskers are still sticking around in this recruitment for Terry, despite the Longhorns holding the lead here for the past few months.
247Sports' Mike Roach reported on Nov. 2 that Texas and Nebraska are "set to face off" in the "race to the finish line" for Terry until early December during signing day.
Texas still looks like the favorite in this recruitment a few weeks out from signing day. I don't think Nebraska will go away quietly as they continue to make a big push on the trail for Terry this fall.
Terry is an important part of Texas's ambitions and path to a top five or three ranked recruiting class in the nation for the 2025 cycle. He is the highest-rated 2025 uncommitted recruit that the Longhorns have a realistic shot of getting a commitment from over the next few weeks.
There is still the question of which position Terry will play at the collegiate level. It sounds like Nebraska is more open to giving Terry immediate playing time at the position of his choosing at the skill positions on offense next year.
But the Longhorns still have the in-state advantage in this recruitment, which could give them the sizable edge for Terry entering signing day on Dec. 4.
