Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after PF John Clark
Texas basketball and head coach Rodney Terry got their first commitment in the 2025 recruiting class on Nov. 1, landing four-star Houston (TX) Link Academy power forward John Clark on his Friday evening/late afternoon announcement on social media.
Can Texas basketball add a second commitment to the 2025 class before the Early Signing Period in November?
The 6-foot-9 and 230-pound big man from Southeast Texas, Clark, committed to the Longhorns over the Houston Cougars, Kansas Jayhawks, and Texas A&M Aggies on Friday.
Clark's commitment to the Longhorns comes just a couple of weeks before the start of the Early Signing Period for the 2025 recruiting class for men's college hoops. Texas is looking to take one or two key blue-chip targets for the 2025 class, and likely fill out the rest of the roster from the transfer portal next offseason in 2025.
Here's a prediction of the next 2025 high school recruit to commit to the Longhorns (before or during signing day in mid-November) after Clark jumped in the boat on Nov. 1.
Nate Ament, F
After landing Clark's commitment for the 2025 class, the Longhorns can turn their attention to recruiting other top priority recruits for this cycle. Five-star Warrenton (VA) Highland School forward Nate Ament is one of Texas's top out-of-state priority targets in the 2025 class this fall.
Texas hosted Ament for an official visit in late September. He's also taken official visits to see the Tennessee Volunteers (Oct. 19) and Louisville Cardinals (Oct. 11) this fall. In the next four or five months, Ament still has official visits scheduled to see the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Nov. 9) and Kansas State Wildcats (Feb. 2025).
At this point of his recruitment, there is no clear favorite in the race to land Ament's commitment. Solely based on the visit schedule, one should assume that Ament's recruitment will likely go into the spring. It sounds like a realistic decision timeline for Ament to wait until next spring to officially decide for his commitment.
Ament, the No. 2 power forward recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, would be the type of upgrade to the frontcourt rotation who could effectively round out recruiting for that position in this cycle for Texas and Terry.
