Over the span of a few hours on Dec. 14, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian secured two commitments from the NCAA Transfer Portal at key positions of need on defense. Texas first picked up a portal commitment from former Arkansas Razorbacks sophomore linebacker Brad Spence amid his visit to Austin this weekend late on Saturday morning.
Shortly after it was announced that Spence committed and signed with the Longhorns from the portal, Texas landed former Purdue Boilermakers grad transfer senior defensive tackle Cole Brevard.
Brevard and Spence both began their visits to Texas yesterday (Dec. 13). The latter of those two Texas portal commitments fills the Longhorns' biggest transfer need at the defensive tackle position for this upcoming offseason.
Linebacker is also a significant position on the defensive front the Longhorns were looking to secure more depth from the portal in the winter transfer window.
Brevard and Spence join former Utah Utes All-Big 12 senior grad transfer punter Jack Bouwmeester among the three portal commits the Longhorns have for this transfer cycle.
Here's a prediction of the next transfer to commit to the Longhorns in the winter portal window after Brevard signed with Texas on Dec. 14.
Max Klare, TE
The first portal visitor the Longhorns hosted during the winter portal window on campus this week was former Purdue redshirt sophomore transfer tight end Max Klare. The All-Big Ten Third-Team tight end for Purdue had a breakout season, registering 51 catches for 685 receiving yards, and four touchdowns this fall.
Klare visited Texas on Thursday (Dec. 12). He hasn't taken any visits since the trip to Texas wrapped up roughly 24 hours ago. Klare also doesn't have any other scheduled visits on the docket since he visited Texas a couple of days ago.
I'm not saying it's out of the question that Klare takes other visits. He's one of the most proven receiving tight ends in the portal in this winter transfer window. Other P4 teams are surely kicking the tires on pursuing him in the portal for the upcoming offseason.
