Jack Turner, QB

Former Louisiana Tech Bulldogs redshirt junior quarterback Jack Turner announced in a post on his X account on Dec. 11 that he received a preferred walk-on offer from the Longhorns.

It's a viable path for the Longhorns to find a quarterback in the transfer portal who can provide more depth at the position in the QB room after starter Quinn Ewers leaves for the NFL Draft next spring. Extending a preferred walk-on offer to a quarterback who's played over a dozen career games over multiple years for a FBS program in the Group of Five that is in a neighboring state makes sense for the Texas quarterback room for the 2025 season.

Turner was an unranked recruit who hails from Corsicana, TX, which is very close to Austin and the campus of the University of Texas. Since Turner has one year of eligibility remaining, returning closer to home to play for the Longhorns for one year could be a good fit for the former Louisiana Tech backup quarterback.

Texas's quarterback room next season boasts three scholarship quarterbacks, including Arch Manning, Trey Owens, and true freshman KJ Lacey. Turner would be the most seasoned college quarterback of that bunch, which could help to mentor some of the younger QBs in the room, like Owens and Lacey.

In three seasons at Louisiana Tech, Turner threw for 1,664 yards, eight passing touchdowns, nine interceptions, along with 99 rushing yards and two rushing scores over 18 games played since 2022.
