Predicting Texas's next transfer after Jaray Bledsoe
Warren Roberson, DB
Texas's secondary has been the most improved position group on the team this season for the Longhorns. Safeties coach Blake Gideon and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph deserve a ton of credit for helping to turn around arguably the most inconsistent level unit of the defense for the Longhorns in the 2023 season.
Texas signed a historic defensive back recruiting class from high school for the 2024 cycle last year, ranking No. 1 for that position group in the nation in the 247Sports Composite. The Longhorns signed a half dozen blue-chip defensive back recruits, many of whom will be on the two-deep depth chart competition for more camp/practice reps in the secondary in the 2025 season.
The continued depth and player development and cross-training the Longhorns have in the defensive secondary has increased the competitiveness for spots on the two-deep in practice.
Texas's No. 1 ranked pass defense, led by award finalists this fall like upperclassmen corner Jahdae Barron and safety Michael Taaffe, has given the younger players in the secondary a great opportunity to learn the ropes and improve their skill sets in coverage and on defense.
The Longhorns' younger and more talented players in the secondary, like redshirt freshman Warren Roberson and true freshman Xavier Filsaime, have developed in practice and with garbage time and special teams reps through the end of the regular season last week. Roberson has played significant snaps as a special teams gunner and coverage player this season.
He's played over 200 special teams snaps for the Longhorns this season, including over 120 in the punt return and kick/punt coverage. Roberson has also shown flashes of what he could develop into in Texas's secondary, registering five combined tackles, two defensive stops, and a tackle for loss with limited defensive snaps in five games for the Longhorns.
