Purdue senior grad transfer defensive tackle Cole Brevard began his visit to Texas on Friday (Dec. 13). His first trip since he entered the portal earlier this month in this transfer cycle was to see the SMU Mustangs in Dallas on Thursday (Dec. 12).

The former Purdue and Penn State Nittany Lions super senior defensive tackle Brevard only has the trips to SMU and Texas on the docket for his portal recruitment thus far.

This season, the big 6-foot-3 and 330-pound "big human" was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention defensive lineman for the Boilermakers. He registered 19 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 14 quarterback pressures, and 13 defensive stops.

Brevard was Purdue's highest-graded defensive tackle and the highest-graded interior run stopper in 2024 (per PFF).

Texas has a huge need at defensive tackle this portal cycle. Defensive line coach Kenny Baker and the Longhorns are looking to add at least three proven and very capable defensive tackles from the transfer portal for the upcoming offseason.

Given his size and proven experience as a multi-year starting nose tackle in the Big Ten for Purdue, Brevard could fit that role, playing zero-tech as the interior defensive line anchor for the Longhorns.

With Mitchell deciding to stick it out with the Longhorns, Texas has lost three defensive linemen to the transfer portal in the winter window: redshirt sophomore Jaray Bledsoe, redshirt sophomore Aaron Bryant, and senior Tia Savea.
