The Texas Longhorns defeated the Texas State Bobcats in resounding fashion to kick off their 2026 campaign, but there are still 11 regular-season games remaining, and that includes a brutal slate of SEC opponents waiting just over the horizon.
Not to mention the fact that the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes are coming to town in Week 2 for what could easily be the biggest matchup of the regular season.

So, with teams like No. 1 Ohio State, No. 3 Georgia, and a slew of other teams that look to be in top form still ahead for the Horns, how will the rest of Texas's regular season unfold?
Texas Longhorns have momentum in their favor going into Week 2
The Horns put up the homestand of a lifetime against the Bobcats, who are an extremely respectable G5 team, and with the 52-point win in their favor, Texas heads into its Week 2 matchup against the Buckeyes with momentum on their side.
I fully and wholeheartedly believe that this year's Texas team can beat this year's Ohio State team. It will still be a close game, but it will most likely be higher scoring that last year's brawl, which shouldn't be hard to do since the score was 10-7 at the end of the game.

If Texas ekes out a win over Ohio State, but looks good doing so, it will be a massive positive moving forward. If the Longhorns obliterate the Buckeyes, they will go undefeated this season, and that would change my outlook on the Red River Rivalry.
However, for the time being, I think that head coach Steve Sarkisian's streak against Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables comes to an end, and OU manages to scrape out a win over the Horns.
I believe defeating the Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, and Missouri Tigers will be relatively easy for the Longhorns this season, even though those games are road trips for Texas.
Other than that, the biggest test will be playing the LSU Tigers on the road, a team that just hosted the Clemson Tigers and secured a jaw-dropping 51-10 victory.
And, no, I don't believe having to visit Kyle Field will present any more of a problem than it did two years ago, when Manning scored his first touchdown against the Horns' in-state rivals: the Texas A&M Aggies.
So, hinging on just how good the Horns look against the Buckeyes on Saturday, Texas should wrap up the season with an 11-1 or 12-0 record to its name, and a trip to the SEC Championship would likely be on the itinerary.
