Upcoming visitor for Texas football at huge position of need in Purdue grad transfer DT Cole Brevard

Brevard was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honoree in 2024. He registered 19 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and 13 defensive stops this season over 11 games played and 11 starts for the Boilermakers.

To show how effective Brevard was for the Purdue defensive front, he was the highest-graded defensive tackle on the team in 2024 while playing against Big Ten competition (per PFF).

Texas and defensive line coach Kenny Baker have a massive void to fill depth-wise at defensive tackle for this upcoming offseason. The Longhorns are now looking to lose eight defensive tackles due to a combination of reasons including the NFL Draft next spring, exhausted collegiate eligibility, and the transfer portal.

Four Texas defensive tackles have already announced their plans to enter the transfer portal, including Jaray Bledsoe, Sydir Mitchell, Aaron Bryant, and Tia Savea. Texas is also losing defensive tackles Vernon Broughton, Bill Norton, Jermayne Lole, and Alfred Collins to the NFL Draft and due to exhausted eligibility after the 2024 season.

Since Texas is literally losing almost all the live-game defensive snaps it had at nose tackle this season, getting the 6-foot-3 and 330-pound Brevard to campus is huge for the Longhorns in the portal.

Brevard spent four seasons at Purdue starting 23 games over 38 appearances since 2021. He started his career in college at Purdue in 2020 during the COVID year. He took a redshirt since he only played one game in the 2021 season.

Since 2022, Brevard has registered the third-most combined tackles (38), and the second-most tackles for loss (nine) and defensive stops (28) of any Purdue defensive tackle in that span.
