The NFL's 53-player cutdown day was yesterday, and though a lot of former Longhorns locked-in roster spots, Quinn Ewers might have the best story.

Ewers came to the Texas football program in 2022 by way of Ohio State, where he basically sat out his entire freshman year and collected NIL money. As soon as the offseason hit, he bolted to the University of Texas to become their starting quarterback, something that he had seemingly always planned to do.

He had a fairly decent season that year while getting his "feet wet" in Steve Sarkisian's offense, throwing for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns to go along with 6 interceptions in 10 games.

2023 is the year that he exploded on the scene, becoming one of the absolute best quarterbacks in all of college football. NFL teams were rumored to be studying his every move throughout the season in the case that he'd declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. He finished the season with 3,479 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He also completed 69% of his passes with an 8.8 yards per attempt.

Ewers ended up staying at Texas for the 2024 season and headed into the year as a potential top NFL Draft pick. Though he started the campaign fairly strong and managed to keep Arch Manning on the bench, he suffered a torn oblique on September 14th, which obviously hindered him for the rest of the year. His throwing motion looked a bit off, and it was easy to tell that his footballs didn't have as much "touch" as they used to.

Though he probably should've just sat out a few games, he refused and wanted to keep fighting through it for his team. All of the praise and recognition that he had previously gotten was dwindling away each week despite the team winning football games. He cared more about his team winning games than he did his pro career at that point.

Despite losing to Ohio State in the CFP Semifinals in January and falling to the 7th round of the 2025 NFL Draft, he stayed positive and lit up the offseason with the Dolphins over the past few months.

He had a rough first preseason game for Miami, but then he totally redeemed himself after that, officially making the Dolphins' initial 53-man roster yesterday. He actually looked quite a bit better than Zach Wilson, the team's current No.2 QB throughout the majority of the offseason.

There's a very good chance that Ewers becomes Miami's top backup to Tua Tagovailoa at some point in his rookie year.

Longhorn Nation is incredibly proud and excited for Quinn's future at the NFL level, after experiencing some will-breaking ups and downs over the past two seasons.
