Senior guard Max Abmas was brought in from the portal to be Texas's primary facilitator of the offense last season, starting in the backcourt alongside junior guard Tyrese Hunter. He rounded out a formidable starting five for the Longhorns, which featured two All-Big 12 selections, including Abmas as a second-team all-conference guard.

Abmas was the crown jewel of the Longhorns transfer haul from the portal in the 2023 offseason. He supplemented an experienced Texas starting five with even more proven experience and efficient volume scoring in the backcourt.

Texas heavily relied on the scoring and offensive production of Abmas last season. He led Texas in scoring, assists, and three-pointers. Abmas' floor spacing and efficient scoring were big reasons why Texas ranked fifth in the Big 12 in points per game.

Last postseason, Abmas helped lead the Longhorns to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Texas advanced past the Round of 64 with a double-digit win over 10-seed Colorado State. But the decorated collegiate career of Abmas for the Longhorns ended with a four-point Round of 32 loss to former Texas head coach Rick Barnes and the second-seeded Tennessee Volunteers.

Abmas ended his collegiate career as one of the all-time great scorers in NCAA history. He ranks eighth in all-time scoring, after leading the Summit League in scoring three times and ranking in the top three in the Big 12 in points from last season.
