Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns recently scheduled an official visit with one of their top running back targets in the 2027 recruiting cycle, 4-star RB Lathan Whisenton. Now, it looks like he'll also be attending some of the Longhorns' spring practices this month.
The 5'11", 194-pound playmaker from Waco Midway HS in Waco, TX, is currently ranked as the No.23 overall running back in the 2027 class according to 247sports.com's composite rankings. His overall speed and knack for finding the endzone are what stand out on film. He's scored 48 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons, and recently ran a blazing 10.54s 100-meter dash in a track meet.
Though Whisenton was originally recruited by former Texas RB coach Chad Scott, he's remained open to the idea of playing for the Longhorns and new position coach Jabbar Juluke.

It's extremely important for Texas to bring some of its top prospects to watch spring practice because the coaching staff wants to make sure that they can develop a relationship with the recruits prior to their official visits in the summer.
This is something that Sark has always done when it comes to his top high school targets at Texas. It makes a lot of sense too, because a good portion of recruits decide to commit in the summer leading up to National Signing Day. What better way to make a good impression on recruits than meeting with them multiple times before they make their decisions?
Whisenton is rumored to be favoring staying inside the state of Texas, with programs like Baylor, SMU, Texas Tech, and Texas being the legitimate favorites right now.
