Rival SEC team reportedly attempting to "hijack" Texas' top-ranked 2026 commit

The LSU Tigers appear to be reaching out to 5-star QB Dia Bell in the hopes of getting him to flip.

According to Rivals.com's Marcus Benjamin and Dia Bell himself, LSU has been consistently reaching out to Bell about the possibility of changing his mind regarding his collegiate decision.

"They've always been there. I've always had a great relationship with Coach Sloan. He's still chipping away, trying to get me to come out, but I have not made any plans to visit LSU at this point"

It doesn't appear to be a huge deal right now as Dia Bell is avid about being and remaining a Longhorn, but this goes to show that a player's recruitment journey is never over until they physically sign the enrollment papers at a school. Opposing teams will always try to keep their "foot in the door" with every one of their top targets, regardless of their current status as a commit to another school.

Texas is poised to work together with Bell to make the college transition as smooth as possible for him, and it appears that a plan is already in place. If Arch Manning actually stays at Texas and starts for two full seasons, which it sounds like he will, then Bell won't be forced into the starting lineup as a true freshman in 2026. He'll have a full season to sit and learn behind Manning before taking over in 2027.

This is an exciting path for Bell to embark on, as this could ensure the Longhorns' success going forward without having to experience and possible "lull" from a true freshman at quarterback during his initial learning curve.

Dia Bell is currently ranked as the No.1 quarterback recruit in the nation for 2026 according to the 247composite rankings. He committed to the Longhorns on June 17th, 2024 and doesn't appear to be wavering from his commitment despite visiting Alabama, Georgia, and Texas A&M since then.
