Texas WR Ryan Wingo spoke to the media yesterday after practice, and a question arose about whether or not he's motivated to try and get on the same level of other guys in his class like Ryan WIlliams, Cam Coleman, and Jeremiah Smith.
He responded in a very mature and effective way:
"I think I'm just focused on my own lane right now. I'm not really worried about no outside receivers. I'm focused on Texas, and we got a big game, game one. So I’ll just let you know, reporters and stuff talk about that and I’m going to just focus on the game.

When asked about being in the conversation with other great WRs from his class like Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams and Cam Coleman, Wingo acknowledged he's focused on the team.

Wingo handled this perfectly, effectively shifting focus to the team and their season-altering matchup against Ohio State in Week 1.
It's incredibly evident that Wingo is a team player, and it's a big factor as to why he's loved by all of his teammates. He could've done the "selfish" thing and ranted about how he deserves to be mentioned in the same tier as those guys, but that's not the type of person that Ryan Wingo is.
He doesn't need to defend himself because Longhorn nation most definitely will in that aspect. It was really surprising to see the reporter ask that type of question because a lot of people out there actually do believe that Wingo's already on that level. No, he didn't put up the same type of numbers that they did, but he was just as effective with the ball in his hands. He finished his true freshman season with 29 catches for 472 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Wingo also rushed 5 times for 100 yards as well, showcasing his versatility and effectiveness as a gadget-type player as well.
With Arch Manning at quarterback and Steve Sarkisian continuing to call the offensive plays, Ryan Wingo should be in for a breakout year in 2025. Having fellow playmakers at the position like DeAndre Moore, Emmett Mosley V, and Parker Livingstone should also help take some of the defensive pressure off of him as well.
