Another week, another opportunity for Texas to struggle against an inferior conference opponent.
The Longhorns managed to squeak out another win against an SEC opponent in overtime, defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs by a score of 45-38 on the heels of a breakout performance by Arch Manning.
Manning threw for 346 yards, completed 60% his passes, and scored 4 total touchdowns on the night (3 through the air, and 1 on the ground). Though he mounted one of the biggest comebacks in recent history for Texas, Steve Sarkisian's offensive inconsistencies have managed to make it feel like a loss again.
Steve Sarkisian's postgame quote was also incredibly triggering for Texas fans because he just recycles it in different versions each week.
"We can't keep living like this. That'll be addressed on Monday."
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Every time Sark gives a postgame quote like the one above, the word "insanity" pops into fans' minds. He continues to do the exact same things each week and expects something to change. The offense has no identity whatsoever; he just goes out there and calls plays that don't make sense from both a schematic or sequencing standpoint. None of his plays work off of each other to make things easier for the offense. Calling one play in 13 personnel and then lining up in empty for the next two plays is incredibly maddening.
A team shouldn't have to win in spite of their head coach and offensive playcaller, but this is what continues to happen each week.
Stretching the defense out horizontally was working incredibly well in the first quarter against MSU, but Sark randomly stopped doing it for some reason after that. One would think that he'd counter the stretch plays with interior runs or misdirection, but nope, not Steve Sarkisian.
It'll be interesting to see what else he says over the next few days about week 9's unnecessarily close win.
