Texas women's basketball took on the Pennsylvania Quakers at the Moody Center on Sunday afternoon, and it was the Longhorns' annual teddy bear toss game. The Texas faithful got to see Vic Schaefer shed his blazer late in the first quarter after the Longhorns finished the quarter shooting 4-21 from the field. That is the worst first-quarter performance by the Longhorns this season. However, Vic Schaefer's technical foul at the end of the first period was the fuel the Longhorns needed.
The Longhorns ended up winning the game by a final score of 81-63.
While it was a bit strange to see the Longhorns miss all those shots, Texas just got back from Vegas after taking down UCLA and South Carolina. Also, the Quakers were hitting their three-point shots, which is what they are known for. The Quakers taught the Longhorns a valuable lesson this afternoon.
Here are four takeaways from this afternoon's game at the Moody Center:

1. You could tell Schaefer gave the girls a day off
Based on how the Longhorns were shooting in the first quarter, it was easy to see that Schaefer let them have a day off when they returned from Las Vegas. Rightfully so, since most of the team played more than twenty minutes against UCLA and South Carolina.
I would be concerned if the Longhorns had a week off before taking on Penn. However, once the Longhorns got into a rhythm in the second quarter, it was over for the Quakers. Since they came away with the win last night, I'm not too concerned with the missed shots.
2. The second quarter was a completely different story
Once the second quarter began, the Longhorns found their rhythm and jumped back into the lead. They were running plays better and making their shots. Basketball is a funny game sometimes, where in one quarter a team can't make a basket and the next one, shots are falling non-stop.
Let's hope this is due to fatigue from Vegas and doesn't become a permanent fixture. Hopefully, the Longhorns can get a nice lead in the first quarter against North Carolina this Thursday.

3. Poor shooting
I was not a fan of how some of the Longhorns were taking contested shots. It's not that I don't want them to attack the rim, it's just some of the shots were questionable. The Longhorns finished 28-64 in the paint and 5-12 from beyond the arc. That is not how they are going to win games in the SEC.
They have to figure out a way not to take stupid shots because in the SEC, every possession counts.
4. Texas still finding ways to win with a limited bench
The Longhorns are a bit banged up at the moment, with only eight players suiting up to take on the Quakers today. The fact that the Longhorns are playing at the level they need to be, fully healthy, with only eight players is remarkable. I've seen many basketball teams with limited benches lose due to fatigue. The fact that Rori Harmon and Madison Booker are playing almost an entire game without getting into foul trouble is just mind-blowing.
The Longhorns return on Thursday night as they take on the North Carolina Tar Heels as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
