Sean Miller is exactly right about what his Longhorns are after BYU upset

Miller perfectly described the state of Texas basketball right now in his postgame presser.

Aside from being a top-notch basketball coach, Sean Miller is a postgame quote master. Everything he says after games is incredibly impactful, and he perfectly defined how the Longhorns looked on Thursday night following the BYU upset.

"When you connect the defense with the offense that we've played, you have a team that's certainly dangerous. That's what I would call us right now."

Texas has played elite offense all year on the backs of Dailyn Swain and Matas Vokietaitis, but what has cost them games is their complete lack of defense in some situations. Not only that, but the Longhorns did nothing but foul opponents over the first part of the season, and that was an incredibly tough problem for Sean Miller and Co. to fix.

Once the team finally got that corrected over the last 5-10 games of the year, things started to really click for Texas when it comes to being a complete basketball team. As we saw against both North Carolina State and BYU, though the NC State game was much closer than it should've been, the Longhorns are an incredibly dangerous team when they play sound basketball on both ends of the court.

The one area that still needs improvement is the free-throw shooting, especially from Matas Vokietaitis. Opposing teams will do everything that they possibly can to slow teams down in the NCAA Tournament, and there's a very, very good chance that Gonzaga will try to foul Vokietaitis as much as they possibly can on Saturday without their key players fouling out.

Texas' big men need to do nothing but shoot free-throws today during practice in order to get prepared. Though Gonzaga has been incredibly dominant in 2025/2026, they're still beatable. A more efficient night at the free-throw line from basically everyone in the Longhorns' frontcourt will go a long way in another potential upset by the Longhorns.
