Sean Miller’s frustration steals the spotlight despite a blowout win vs. Southern

One would think that Coach Miller would've been ecstatic after blowing out Southern by 25+ points last night, but that wasn't the case.

On the back of Matas Vokietaitis' career-high scoring performance, the Longhorns were able to successfully dominate the Southern Jaguars 95-69 on Monday night. Though most of the game was incredibly impressive, the Longhorns continue to shoot themselves in the foot in one pretty important area.

Texas fouled the Jaguars a total of 23 times yesterday, resulting in an inordinate amount of "free points" for Southern. They absolutely have to figure out a way to decrease this number, especially on defense. If they don't, they won't have a chance against teams like UCONN, Tennessee, or Alabama this season.

Sean Miller addressed the team's fouling problem after the big win last night:

"Look we have problems on defense...we foul...our fouling is not a thing of aggression, it's a sign of weakness"

One of Sean Miller's best attributes is that he's very honest and get's straight to the point with his team's weaknesses. He's very short, and has a great record of correcting flaws wherever he's been and it starts with taking ownership of the problem.

Miller undoubtedly did this as well yesterday, and good for him:

"Undisciplined players come from an undisciplined coach," Sean Miller said.

"It's up to me to fix it on an everyday basis."

Though they only gave up 69 total points last night, that's a fairly large number for a team as underwhelming as Southern. For whatever reason, the Longhorns were consistently caught out of position when the Jaguars were on offense.

When Southern ball-handlers were driving to the basket, the only thing Texas could do was run with them for a step or two and then hold them or make contact during a shot. There were very few reps last night on the defensive end of the floor that looked good for Sean Miller's squad.

It'll be interesting to see if the team looks any better against UCONN on Friday.
