SEC Football: South Carolina putting Bama on upset alert
Chaos is looming around the SEC football conference in the early slate of 11 a.m. CT games on a big day around the college football landscape in Week 7, on Oct. 12. For the second week in a row, the No. 7 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer are on upset alert against an unranked foe in SEC play.
More upsets looming around the SEC football landscape in Week 7?
Head coach Shane Beamer and the upset-minded South Carolina Gamecocks took the lead against star quarterback Jalen Milroe and the Crimson Tide late in the third quarter. Senior running back Raheim Sanders gave South Carolina the 19-14 lead late in the third quarter on a short touchdown run in the red zone.
Sanders' first rushing score of the game in the second half gave the Gamecocks the lead for the first time in this game.
South Carolina's pressure from the pass rush has given Milroe and the Tide offense issues throughout the game's first three quarters. At the conclusion of the third quarter, Milroe has under 150 passing yards, no passing scores, and one interception.
Milroe has also been held to just 10 rushing yards on 11 carries, including one rushing score on the day by the South Carolina defense.
Sanders and the Gamecocks are looking to rebound from their convincing double-digit loss to the top-10-ranked Ole Miss Rebels last week against another top 10 conference foe against the Tide today.
Meanwhile, Milroe and the Tide are looking to avoid disaster in the SEC for the second straight weekend after they were upset by the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville on Oct. 5.
South Carolina has only ever one once against Alabama in Tuscaloosa at Bryant-Denny Stadium (per Winsipedia). The Gamecocks defeated the Tide by a score of 20-3 during the 2004 season in Tuscaloosa.
