After a year of recruiting with seemingly no progress, the Longhorns were close to giving up on 4-star DT Jamar Thompson from Boca Raton, FL. Thompson was keeping things incredibly close to the vest, not really revealing anything in terms of which schools were in the lead, but Longhorns DL Coach Kenny Baker has been incredibly persistent.
Now, after thinking that they weren't even in the running for the blue-chip's commitment, Thompson recently told Rivals.com that Texas is indeed one of his top schools. Talk about an atomic bomb-type of surprise for the Longhorns' defensive staff, especially for Coach Baker.

The No. 1 DL in Florida was set to visit Michigan June 19-21 but has replaced that with Texas

This news comes shortly after finding out that Thompson cancelled his OV to Michigan, and replaced it with a visit to Austin, most likely in June.
It'll be the first time that the 6'3", 305-pound behemoth comes to the forty acres, and Texas' coaching staff will undoubtedly make sure that they make an elite first impression with the highly sought-after defensive tackle.
Thompson is undoubtedly one of the most dominant interior defensive linemen in the 2027 class, and his ability to completely shut down different aspects of an offense's run game is why Will Muschamp and Co. are so enthralled by him. He has an excellent motor for his size, which is evident when rushing the passer as well. His hand-fighting skills and consistent leg drive make it incredibly hard for opposing linemen to anchor down against.

Adding someone like Thompson in the 2027 class would prove to the world that just because a prospect doesn't publicly update his list of top schools doesn't mean that a program should stop recruiting them. Yes, things aren't over yet, and the University of Miami is essentially right in his backyard, but consistency means something to these kids.
Steve Sarkisian and Kenny Baker have been Thompson's main point of contact since day one, and it looks like the 4-star defensive tackle could finally be seeing the "light" in terms of the things he could do with the Longhorns.
Though it wouldn't be a literal flip, if Texas can find a way to sway Thompson into a commitment, it could be considered one as he's definitely a Miami "lean" right now.
He'd be an excellent addition to the Longhorns' defensive line group next season alongside Justus Terry, Lance Jackson, Alex January, and all of the other top-tier players inside Texas' defensive line room.
