Well, the Longhorns have officially started their season at 0-1 after losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 1.

The defense lived up to the hype, holding the Buckeyes to less than 250 total yards on offense. However, the offensive unit, which was led by the prodigal son Arch Manning, was as lackluster as a team could get.

After the game, Sarkisian admitted to his own shortcomings throughout the four quarters, especially in regards to his decision to go for it on fourth-and-goal against the Buckeyes and his team falling short once again.

"It was 4th and inches at the goal line, we got to have those," Sarkisian said. "I got to make more of a push, because that was a big swing on the game."

Why did Steve Sarkisian not kick a field goal against Ohio State?

It was eerily similar to Texas's goalline attempt against the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinals, where the Horns fell short and the Buckeyes advanced to the National Championship game.

Simply put, he didn't have a complete answer as to why he didn't just take the field goal attempt, possibly tacking on three points to the total. In fact, he decided to go for two fourth-down attempts throughout the game, sacrificing a possible six points.

"We've got an opportunity over the next month to really clean some things up," Sarkisian said about the points of error that Texas must improve before the team kicks off SEC play in October.

Manning struggled through the first three quarters, capping off the stretch with an interception. By the end of the game, the young quarterback had just 17 completions for 170 yards and one touchdown through the air.

Texas was able to eke out 166 rushing yards, led by Quintrevion Wisner, who had 80 yards on the ground. Manning, who is normally considered a dual-threat quarterback, only earned 38 rushing yards.

The game was ugly for the Horns, and a far cry from what many industry experts expected out of Texas in its Week 1 matchup. However, Sarkisian isn't hitting the panic button quite yet.

“We will be fine. I am getting on the plane knowing we are going to be a good football team," Sarkisian said after the game.

Up next, the Longhorns will host the San Jose State Spartans at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
