In an unfortunate series of events for Texas baseball and football alike, it appears that Jonah Williams has re-injured his shoulder while diving for a foul ball. Though it shouldn't really affect him that much as a football player, his baseball season is officially over as he's scheduled to have surgery soon.
Though it's incredibly brutal for his baseball goals and aspirations in 2026, he still has football to look forward to, and he's projected to be ready to go and healthy by the time football practice starts ramping up later in the year.
The 6'3", 213-pounder has been one of the baseball team's top outfielders this year due to his length and range, and has been pretty consistent as a hitter as well. Though Jim Schlossnagle and Co. will undoubtedly miss him, the baseball team has excellent depth and should be able to effectively replace Williams in most aspects to finish out the year.
As a safety for Steve Sarkisian and the football program, he bring elite size and athleticism to the position, and he should be able to jump right back into contention for a starting spot in the secondary alongside Xavier Filsaime and Derek Williams Jr. when he gets back.
This injury also brings up the topic of whether or not he'll eventually choose one sport or the other to attack full-time. Though there's been rumblings that he's leaning towards football, I wouldn't expect him to make a formal decision anytime soon. It seems like he doesn't really feel comfortable making a decision yet, and that's fine.
However, he probably needs to choose what he wants to do before his junior season in order to give everything he has to one sport or the other.
