The long, lefty forward is an exceptional scorer who can defend multiple positions due to his length and athleticism. He has a uniquely high release in his jump shots that make it very hard for defenders to block or defend once he commits. Being able to deccelerate in a heartbeat and pull up in the face of defenders at the 3pt line is a highly sought-after trait at 6'7", and there's even a slight chance that he could see time at SG due to things like this.
He's got the playstyle and scoring ability of a high-quality shooting guard, but the size and length of a small forward. He'll be bringing an incredible amount of versatility to whatever program he commits to, and as long as he develops a better scoring ability close to the rim, he should develop into an absolute star.
In regards to his relationship with new Texas HC Sean Miller, Thompson said:
"“He (Sean Miller) recruited me at Xavier, so just following up with me in that recruitment and continuing to tell me how big of a priority I am for them. Obviously, I built a good connection with them at Xavier, so it has kind of carried over at Texas.”"
As of right now he hasn't set an official commitment date, but it goes without saying that Longhorn nation will be keeping an eye on him.
