Final score prediction
Texas 74, Virginia 70
Virginia has been a really good defensive team so far in 2025, and the Longhorns have been "okay", so this game might be lower scoring than most think. Cavaliers G Chance Mallory has been one of the top perimeter defenders in the ACC this season, and 7'0" C Johann Grunloh is averaging 3.3 blocks per game. In fact, Virginia has two players averging over 3 blocks per game in 2025, so the Longhorns will have to be very careful around the rim tonight.
It's undoubtedly going to be a battle of the "Bigs" as Matas Vokietaitis is also a 7-footer with above-average scoring ability. If Texas is having trouble tonight driving to the basket and scoring against the Cavaliers' frontcourt, then Vokietaitis might be in for a big offensive night.
Though neither team is currently ranked, both are incredibly well suited to make a splash in 2025. This should end up being an excellent game at the Moody Center tonight.
