The Texas Longhorns have been doing an excellent job recruiting in-state prospects over the past couple of seasons, and they could be trending for another right now.

Under-the-radar prospect Payhton Porter has been a jack-of-all-trades type of player at the prep level, playing linebacker, defensive end, and running back over the past two seasons. Though he's been fairly productive at running back for the Melissa HS Cardinals, it sounds like most FBS schools are recruiting him as a defensive player, specifically at linebacker.

The 6'3", 200-pound athlete is extremely long and is able to cover a lot of ground, which bodes well for his outlook as a defensive player at the next level. His length will allow him to occupy larger areas when dropping back into coverage as a WILL linebacker in college, and he's shown a fairly consistent and technically sound tackling ability as well.

Porter unofficially visited Texas back in January for the school's "Junior Day" alongside the likes of Felix Ojo, Kosi Okpala, and Jermaine Bishop. It's evident that the Longhorns are very interested in him as a player, and Porter could end up being a nice developmental type of prospect for Texas linebackers coach Johnny Nansen over the next few seasons.

Porter's been playing a lot of defensive end this spring for Melissa, and there's a chance that he'd see some time there for Texas, but he'd have to gain a considerable amount of weight in a hurry to do so in the SEC.

On3.com currently predicts Porter to Texas, which is great, but he's now being wooed by several other Power 4 teams, with more offers coming in over the past two weeks. A good portion of his offers arrived after teams saw him run a 4.41s 40-yard dash at the Dallas Showcase this summer, which is absolutely mindblowing for a player with his overall length.

Though nothing is scheduled as of right now, it wouldn't be surprising to see Porter set up an official in-game visit sometime this fall.
