Texas DL Aaron Bryant enters the transfer portal
According to On3, redshirt sophomore Texas football defensive tackle Aaron Bryant entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 9.
A second Texas football DL, sophomore Aaron Bryant, enters the transfer portal
The 6-foot-2 and 305-pound defensive lineman from Southaven, MS, Bryant played in 13 games over the past three seasons at Texas. Bryant saw action in four games in the 2024 regular season, including in the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma and in Week 11 at home against Florida.
He registered two combined tackles and two defensive stops over 95 career defensive snaps played for the Longhorns since the 2022 season (per PFF).
Bryant is the second defensive tackle that the Longhorns and DL coach Kenny Baker have lost to the transfer portal in the past five days. Last week, fellow redshirt sophomore Texas defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal when the winter window opened on Dec. 9.
After Bryant entered the portal today, and Bledsoe officially entered the portal after announcing his intentions to last week, the Longhorns are down to just a few scholarship defensive tackles projected to return to the team for the 2025 season.
Among those defensive tackles who have taken some sort of live-game reps for the Longhorns who are projected to return next season, they only have freshman Alex January, redshirt freshman Sydir Mitchell, and senior Tia Savea.
Texas has also lost two edge rushers/outside linebackers to the portal on the first day of the winter transfer window. Redshirt freshmen EDGEs/outside linebackers Tausili Akana and Derion Gullette filed their paperwork in order to officially enter the transfer portal on Monday morning.
In total, Bryant is the fifth player from the Longhorns to enter the transfer portal for the winter window this cycle. Sophomore wide receiver Johntay Cook II entered the transfer portal after being dismissed from the program in early November earlier this fall.
Bryant was a four-star recruit from Southaven (MS) High who signed with a top-five-ranked 2022 recruiting class in the nation for Sarkisian and the Longhorns in the 247Sports Composite.
He ranked as the No. 391 prospect nationally in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 52 defensive lineman, and No. 11 from Mississippi.
Bryant has two years of eligibility remaining.
