When it rains, it pours for Longhorn football fans. Despite only losing by one touchdown to a top-3 team in week one, the AP Poll currently has Texas ranked all the way down at No.7 heading into their home opener against San Jose State this weekend.
Needless to say, it's incredibly disappointing and embarrassing to see where this football team is right now compared to their confidence and momentum heading into the 2025 season. All it took was one game against an elite opponent to humble them in multiple aspects.

Though remaining in the top 10 could be seen as a small "win", their opponents over the next few weeks won't help them move the needle much from a national rankings aspect. The Longhorns face San Jose State, UTEP, and Sam Houston in weeks 2, 3, and 4, and even if they go 3-0 in that span, they might only move up 1-2 spots.
With how bad Texas looked on offense against Ohio State, it's fair to say that these next few games against inferior opponents are "must wins" for them because they'll at least start to boost morale around and inside of the program.
Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari commented on the Longhorns' title prospects going forward:
"Texas is still viewed as a national title contender assuming Manning is able to bounce back, but the ugly offensive showing against Ohio State dropped the Longhorns to No. 7 in the rankings."
Though it's still early in the season, and Texas obviously still has a great chance to make the college football playoffs, week one was incredibly disappointing. It's completely warranted and understandable to see the fanbase expressing frustration right now.
