Texas fans hit panic button with another 5-star commit visiting Miami next weekend

Will the Longhorns be able to hold on here?

Mario Cristobal has no issues flipping prospects and this unfortunately is some pretty bad news for Texas football and Steve Sarkisian. We already knew 5-star running back Derrek Cooper was going to be on hand for the Canes vs. Notre Dame showdown.

However, you can add another name to the list that people in Austin aren't happy about. Per insider Steve Wiltfong, 5-star defensive lineman James Johnson will also be making the trip to watch that primetime showdown next Sunday night. Johnson also told Wiltfong that 'Miami is still on my mind heavy' leading up to his trip, which is not ideal for Sark and his staff:

5-star Texas football commit James Johnson will visit Miami for the Notre Dame game

A 6-2, 285-pounder, Johnson is a standout for Northwestern High right in Miami. Originally, he committed to Georgia, but then he ended up changing his mind and flipping to Texas. He committed to Sark and the Longhorns last month.

Despite that, Cristobal has continued to reach out to Johnson and he's made him feel like a top priority for a little while. With Johnson being a local product, it's no surprise that Miami isn't giving up in trying to land him - it's just a pain for Texas.

Both Cooper and Johnson were considered massive gets for the Longhorns. When the two committed, they also made it seem like they were shutting down their respective recruitments and that they were going to sign with UT in December.

With recruiting, though, anything can change at any minute. Cooper and Johnson should be considered 'soft verbals' moving forward. Losing either of those guys would be a monster blow for the Texas 2026 recruiting class, which currently is ranked No. 6 in the country.

Johnson, the No. 1 DL in the country, is still Texas-bound for now, but he sure has a lot of fans worried. The same can no question be said about Cooper, as the two might end up deciding to play closer to home when it's all said and done.
