We'll close the book on Texas basketball recruiting for the 2025 cycle in a couple of months when the 2024-25 college basketball season concludes this spring in April.
Texas basketball still has an outside chance for 5-Star PF priority Koa Peat in the 2025 class entering the spring on the trail
Texas head coach Rodney Terry and his staff are still involved in a handful of recruitments from the high school ranks in the 2025 class before the late signing period this spring.
The top priority out-of-state recruit among the uncommitted targets for Terry and the Longhorns staff in the 2025 class entering the final stretch run of this cycle is five-star Gilbert (AZ) Perry power forward Koa Peat.
The No. 4 power forward recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is still going through his decision-making process in his recruitment with no rush to announce his commitment.
The Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils have been setting the pace in this recruitment for Peat over the past few months. The Longhorns have been hanging around the rim in this recruitment since late last offseason, but there is still a lot of work to do for Texas if they want to make up the necessary ground to make Peat's decision more competitive over the next couple of months.
247Sports' Adam Finkelstein reported on Feb. 18 that Texas is currently in third place with a lot of ground to make up in this recruitment behind the Arizona schools.
Peat has flip flopped between his top option in-state between the Wildcats and Sun Devils over the past few months. But it looks like the odds are favoring Peat to stay in state and commit to Arizona or Arizona State this spring.
Peat has visited Texas multiple times since he was offered by the Longhorns a few years ago. He took his official visit to Texas in the fall of 2023.
That said, the Longhorns haven't thrown in the towel yet for this recruitment. It would be unwise to completely count out the Longhorns here, given Terry and Co.'s track record with recruiting top five-star talents to Austin in the past couple of cycles, including high-four-star John Clark for 2025 and five-star Tre Johnson for the 2024 class.
