Just like that, the Texas Longhorns are once again just within reach of one of the top quarterbacks in an upcoming recruiting cycle.

In 2023, the Horns landed Arch Manning (heard of him?), the No. 1 quarterback in the class. In 2025, Texas landed KJ Lacey, one of the top QB prospects in the cycle. The incoming class of 2026 is headlined by Dia Bell, the No. 1 prospect at the position.

Now, Jayden Wade, the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2028, included the Longhorns within his final seven schools, and his decision day is already less than two weeks away.

Jayden Wade announces final 7, commitment in 9 days

Wade, a native of Florida who plays high school football at the IMG Academy in Los Angeles, CA, is the No. 1 quarterback and No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2028, making him a highly coveted recruit for programs across the country.

After already receiving 28 offers, despite still having two and a half years of high school remaining, Wade announced that the Michigan Wolverines, Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and Washington Huskies were the final seven programs under his consideration.

Then, he set his commitment date for Nov. 16, which is just nine days from now.

Does Texas need Jayden Wade?

Steve Sarkisian is notorious (if not infamous) for sticking with "his guy" at quarterback, no matter how low the lows get. So, while Texas will likely see Lacey become QB1 once Manning's time is done, and then see Bell step into the role, there is no guarantee that those quarterbacks will be there in 2028.

If all goes well, those three QBs would be headed for the NFL, if not already in the league, by the time Wade sets foot on a college campus as a program's play caller.

So, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have yet another elite five-star quarterback in Austin, especially as the Longhorns continue to cement themselves as one of the top teams in the SEC.

The exact time of Wade's commitment has yet to be shared, but the Longhorns could very well be within reach of landing yet another top quarterback.
