College football's new transfer portal window officially opens on January 2nd, and ends on the 16th. During that time period, Texas will be scrambling to aggressively add talent at multiple positions, especially on the offensive side of the ball due to multiple reasons.
That being said, here is the Longhorns' top positional transfer portal need heading into the new year:
Interior offensive line
One of the biggest reasons why the offense as a whole struggled during the first half of the 2025 season can be largely contributed to the lack of talent along the interior offensive line. Cole Hutson was playing out of position, Connor Stroh couldn't figure out how to pass block, and Neto Umeozulu apparently forgot how to play football.
D.J. Campbell and Connor Robertson were the only two interior players who held their own on the field, and now Campbell is headed to the 2026 NFL Draft. Robertson returns but both offensive guards need to be replaced, and Steve Sarkisian need to find players who are enormous upgrades over what they had in 2025.
One of Texas' true freshman in 2025, Nick Brooks, saw a good amount of work at offensive guard in practice after making the switch from offensive tackle, but he still needs to develop in a few areas. He has excellent size and length at 6'7", 330 lbs., and did a decent job in limited action, but it's safe to say that the Longhorns' coaching staff might want to bring in a couple of more experienced offensive linemen in the transfer portal.
A few potential targets could be UCF's Carter Miller (Fort Worth native), Arizona's Michael Wooten, South Carolina's Trovon Baugh, or USC's Makai Saina.
All of these players were either highly-ranked recruits, started for their former programs, or appear to be schematic fits in Steve Sarkisian's offense.
As soon as the transfer portal opens, it's going to feel like Christmas morning for both the team and Longhorn Nation. Texas can basically add whoever they want, as long as they're willing to shell out a good chunk of NIL money, which they have more than enough of.
