Texas football is targeting a top out-of-state defensive line prospect from the Northeast in New Jersey in the 2026 class, Middleton (NJ) Hun School four-star Luke Wafle. The 6-foot-4 and 240-pound defensive lineman Wafle has visited Texas twice since last summer, including for one gameday trip to the Forty Acres last fall.
Defensive line a key focus for Texas football with out-of-state recruiting for 2026, including New Jersey blue-chip Luke Wafle
Wafle visited Texas early last fall for the season opener against Colorado State at DKR in late August.
Per On3's Chad Simmons, Texas is among the national programs in college football that have the "attention" of Wafle on the trail in the 2026 class.
Despite hailing from the East Coast in New Jersey, Wafle has interest from multiple SEC programs involved in his recruitment. He's visited the Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas multiple times since last offseason.
Texas offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood is well connected in the Northeast in New Jersey. He's taken the lead on this recruitment for Wafle, along with co-DC/LB coach Pete Kwiatkowski.
The Longhorns have reportedly stayed in consistent communication with Wafle on the recruiting trail since last summer. He had visited Texas twice in a span of less than two months last year, including for the Colorado State game for the season opener and the late July pool party/BBQ bash.
Wafle said that the Texas coaching staff has been "unbelievable" in their communication with him on the recruiting trail since the Longhorns offered him last March during the spring evaluation period last offseason.
His older brother, Owen Wafle just transferred from the Michigan Wolverines to the Penn State Nittany Lions in the winter portal window early this offseason.
Wafle ranks as the No. 208 prospect nationally in the 2026 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 26 defensive lineman and No. 2 from New Jersey.
