Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian has hired former Oklahoma State Cowboys tight ends and fullbacks coach Jason McEndoo.
Young Texas football tight ends getting a helping hand to develop from the coaching staff in former Oklahoma State assistant Jason McEndoo
This news comes after McEndoo spent 10 years on longtime head coach Mike Gundy's coaching staff at Oklahoma State.
Horns247's Eric Henry reported on Feb. 17 that McEndoo has officially joined Texas's coaching staff early this offseason. McEndoo is expected to help coach tight ends and potentially a sort of "Cowboy back" hybrid position for the Longhorns in the 2025 season.
McEndoo is an experienced football coach with over two decades of coaching experience at the collegiate level. He was also teammates with Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Johnny Nansen with the Washington State Cougars in the mid-to-late 1990s.
The first coaching opportunity in college came along for McEndoo entering the 2003 season with the FCS Montana State Bobcats. He coached Montana State's offensive line from 2003-2014, with many of those years coming on the staff under current Texas co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski.
McEndoo coached up multiple successful offensive lines at Montana State that helped the Bobcats reach the FCS playoffs. He also coached up 2011 seventh round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers from Montana State, guard Mike Person.
Gundy hired McEndoo away from Montana State to coach the specialty position at Oklahoma State, the "Cowboy back". He helped to coach up and develop multiple All-Big 12 selections and players who went on to play careers in the NFL at tight end/cowboy back at Oklahoma State in the past decade, including Blake Jarwin and Jelani Woods.
McEndoo coached the cowboy backs until the 2022 season when he was promoted to be the full tight ends and fullbacks coach for Oklahoma State.
This hire should help the development of multiple young and talented tight ends for the Longhorns going into the 2025 season, including freshman Jordan Washington and sophomore Spencer Shannon. Texas also has two blue-chip incoming true freshman tight ends this spring, including Emaree Winston and Nick Townsend.
