Now that the Texas Longhorns have a winning streak once again, things are trending in the right direction on the 40 Acres, and that includes the Horns' place in the AP Top 25 Poll.

After Texas's Week 9 dominant showing against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Longhorns were back in the top 10, ranked No. 10 ahead of none other than the Ohio State Buckeyes, the very team Texas beat in Week 2 and the very team that lost to unranked USC last night.

  1. Miami Hurricanes (8-0)
  2. Georgia Bulldogs (7-1)
  3. Utah Utes (8-0)
  4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-1)
  5. UCLA Bruins (8-0)
  6. Indiana Hoosiers (8-1)
  7. BYU Cougars (7-1)
  8. Kentucky Wildcats (7-1)
  9. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-2)
  10. Texas Longhorns (6-2)
  11. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-2)
  12. Ole Miss Rebels (6-2)
  13. Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-1)
  14. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (7-1)
  15. LSU Tigers (6-2)
  16. Tennessee Volunteers (6-2)
  17. Houston Cougars (6-2)
  18. USC Trojans (7-2)
  19. Missouri Tigers (6-2)
  20. Boise State Broncos (7-1)
  21. Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2)
  22. New Mexico Lobos (7-1)
  23. South Carolina Gamecocks (5-3)
  24. Arizona Wildcats (6-2)
  25. Florida Gators (5-3)

Texas also has the head-to-head wins over the Ole Miss Rebels and the Tennessee Volunteers, who are both still in the top 25. And over the next few weeks, the Horns will have a couple more opportunities for ranked wins, with games against the No. 15 LSU Tigers and No. 19 Missouri Tigers on the horizon.

Texas Longhorns are back on track just in time for first CFP ranking

Of course, the AP Top 25 Poll has become relatively trivial with the postseason relying on the College Football Playoff committee to rank the top 12 teams.

However, even while the CFP committee supposedly doesn't take the AP Poll into account, it's never a bad sign for your team to be climbing the rankings just days before the first CFP ranking of the season is released.

The first College Football Playoff ranking reveal will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. CT. With the Horns back in the top 10 of the AP Poll, they will most likely be right on the bubble of the CFP rankings.

The good news is that with two ranked matchups remaining, Texas still has more opportunities to bolster its resume strength.

Wins over Missouri and LSU would have Texas at 8-2 overall, with five ranked wins, which would be the most in the entire country. Then, the Longhorns should be able to close out the year with two rivalry games: against the Arkansas Razorbacks and at the Texas A&M Aggies.

Simply put, even if Texas isn't included in the first CFP ranking of the year, the Horns have the ideal remaining schedule to push themselves into the postseason bracket... if they win their games, that is.
